These models follows on from the previous Arsenal VG-70 and use a similar design philosophy. They are easy to print, inexpensive to build, and offer fabulous performance with a 50mm EDF and 3-4S [4S recommended}.
The 3D-printed MiG-15UTI two-seat trainer was designed first, and forms the basis for the MiG-15bis single seater, which utilizes a new canopy and two remodelled forward fuselage components.
All construction files are free to download from Cults3D via the links found below, along with detailed build instructions. Gcodes and Prusa 3mf files are provided. Whilst the slicer Cura has been used successfully by builders, Prusa is the slicer of choice [the model was originally sliced in Prusa 2.5.2].
The two MiGs use mostly LW-PLA construction. Major components use an extrusion multiplier of 70% and an infill of 3% gyroid in the fuselage and 4% cubic in the wings, printed at 40mm/sec. In practice these figures can be varied widely to achieve desired stiffness and strength.
For example, a 50% extrusion multiplier and 6% infill gives a similar strength and weight to the above settings with a finer surface finish, but needs to be printed more slowly for consistent results and takes about 20% longer.
With the additional wing spars designed into the CAD model [compared to the VG-70], gyroid infill may be substituted for the cubic infill in the wings for a slightly nicer wing surface and still good strength.
