The Supermarine Spitfire trainer has been under-represented as a flying model. The sole Tr.8 G-AIDN is an especially good subject, as it has appeared in a multitude of bright, attractive civil colour schemes throughout its life.
In development are two models, a small hand-launched variant of around 700mm wingspan, and an 1100mm span model which will fit retracts.
The small Spitfire flight test phase has begun! A number of structural and aerodynamic changes will be added to prototype#2.
After construction of a 700mm span flying prototype and two more development prototypes (pictured), as well as a partially completed 1100mm span 3D-printed Spitfire Tr.8, this project has been closed in favour of the pursuit of larger-sized Spitfires in more conventional construction.
This decision came about for a number of reasons, not the least of which was the onset of significant allergies du
